【摘要】:Eddy-currentexaminationisanondestructivemethodoflocatingdiscontinuitiesinaproduct.Signalscanbeproducedbydiscontinuitieslocatedeitherontheexternalorinternalsurfaceofthetubeorbydiscontinuitiestotallycontainedwithinthewalls.Sincethedensityofeddycurrentsdecreasesnearlyexponentiallyasthedistancefromtheexternalsurfaceincreases,theresponsetodeep-seateddefectsdecreases.Someindicationsobtainedbythismethodmaynotberelevanttoproductquality;forexample,arejectsignalmaybecausedbyminutedentsortoolchattermarksthatarenotdetrimentaltotheenduseoftheproduct.Irrelevantindicationscanmaskunacceptablediscontinuities.Relevantindicationsarethosewhichresultfromnonacceptablediscontinuities.Anyindicationabovetherejectlevelthatisbelievedtobeirrelevantshallberegardedasunacceptableuntilitisdemonstratedbyre-examinationorothermeanstobeirrelevant(see10.3.2).Eddy-currentexaminationsystemsaregenerallynotsensitivetodiscontinuitiesadjacenttotheendsofthetube(endeffect).On-lineeddy-currentexaminingwouldnotbesubjecttoendeffect.Discontinuitiessuchasscratchesorseamsthatarecontinuousanduniformforthefulllengthofthetubemaynotalwaysbedetected.1.1Thispracticecoverstheproceduresthatshallbefollowedineddy-currentexaminationofcopperandcopper-alloytubesfordetectingdiscontinuitiesofaseveritylikelytocausefailureofthetube.Theseproceduresareapplicablefortubeswithoutsidediametersto31/8in.(79.4mm),inclusive,andwallthicknessesfrom0.017in.(0.432mm)to0.120in.(3.04mm),inclusive,orasotherwisestatedinASTMproductspecifications;orbyotherusersofthispractice.Theseproceduresmaybeusedfortubesbeyondthesizerangerecommended,uponcontractualagreementbetweenthepurchaserandthemanufacturer.1.2Theproceduresdescribedinthispracticearebasedonmethodsmakinguseofencirclingannularexaminationcoilsystems.1.3Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.Note18212;Thispracticemaybeusedasaguidelinefortheexamination,bymeansofinternalprobeexaminationcoilsystems,ofinstallationsusingtubularproductswheretheoutersurfaceofthetubeisnotaccessible.Forsuchapplications,thetechnicaldifferencesassociatedwiththeuseofinternalprobecoilsshouldberecognizedandaccommodated.Theeffectofforeignmaterialsonthetubesurfaceandsignalsduetotubesupportsaretypicalofthefactorsthatmustbeconsidered.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
